To See by Touch: HSE Students Raise Funds for the Project ‘The World Through the Eyes of the Blind’
Students of the Bachelor's programme in Business Administration at HSE Nizhny Novgorod are implementing ‘The World Through the Eyes of the Blind’ public initiative as part of a project seminar. The students are holding exhibitions and workshops to raise funds through the crowdfunding platform Planeta.ru in order to install a radio system in a boarding school for blind and visually impaired students and to draw attention to the problems of people with visual disabilities.
Children from this boarding school for blind and visually impaired children perceive the world around them mainly by sound and touch. To help them navigate their environment better, they need a radio system that works every day in their educational institution. 2nd-year students from the Business Administration programme at HSE Nizhny Novgorod, led by curators, have organized a fundraiser on the Planeta.ru crowdfunding platform.
Recently, the project team invited the artist and architect Arina Ptitsyna to hold a master class for visually impaired children. During this master class, the children created unique three-dimensional paintings. The proceeds from the sale of these paintings will also be used to install the radio network in the boarding school.
Kristina Soynova, student on the Bachelor's programme in Business Administration, participant of ‘The World Through the Eyes of the Blind’ project
This project has taught me to see beauty in the smallest and simplest things, to appreciate every moment of life and to move forward despite any difficulties. Disabilities don't make us wrong, they make us different from the rest, and that's absolutely fine! It is important to learn to be grateful for every day spent, for life, for those close to us. It is important to feel compassion and develop empathy, both of which are so necessary today.
Ksenia Morozova, student of the Bachelor's programme in Business Administration, curator of ‘The World Through the Eyes of the Blind’ project
When we first started studying crowdfunding projects in our seminars, we had a lot of ideas, and one of them was an exhibition of works by blind people. At that time we didn't think that it would inspire us to engage in a charity project. As soon as we visited the school, I realized that I wanted to do something important together with the rest of the team. I am delighted that we are doing this, and we are working together towards a common goal – to help blind children navigate easier at school thanks to the radio system, and also to tell people about how blind people see this world. The project has helped my team acquire managerial skills, and practice sensitivity, kindness, and openness.
You can support ‘The World Through the Eyes of the Blind’ project and make a donation by following the link. The fundraising will continue until the end of April 2023.
