HSE University Comes Second in SuperJob Graduate Salary Ranking
SuperJob has published its annual ranking of Russian universities by salary earned by young professionals working in finance and economics. The ranking was based on data on university graduates for the period 2017–2022.
First, second, and third place in the ranking went to MGIMO University, HSE University, and Lomonosov Moscow State University respectively.
Sergey Pekarski
Graduates of the HSE University Faculty of Economic Sciences are in-demand in the labour market for several reasons, notes Dean of the faculty Sergey Pekarski. ‘Firstly, HSE University attracts the strongest applicants: those with the highest USE scores and winners of olympiads. As such, there is the effect of the initial selection of the most talented and driven students,’ he explains. ‘The second factor is the high global standards of education. Students gain not only applied skills which are often more quickly and effectively mastered at work, but also undergo fundamental training in economic theory, finance, and modern instrumental methods of working with data. Thirdly, student economists learn through a project-based learning model that provides an opportunity to conduct research into real tasks under the guidance of employers and to build an individual learning trajectory.’
The HSE University Faculty of Economic Sciences places great emphasis on the formation of soft skills (identifying problems, suggesting solutions, presentations, arguments, discussions, etc), highlights Sergey Pekarski. All of this helps graduates to adapt flexibly to the rapidly changing realities of the market economy and government policy, and to continue developing throughout their lives, he concludes.
The ranking compiled by the SuperJob research centre is based on a comparison of the average salaries of graduates of Russian universities in the period 2017–2022. The study covers traditional state universities and those specialising in economics. Data was collected from the SuperJob CV database (which contains over 30 million CVs) and other open sources for the period up until two months before the ranking’s publication. The ranking lists the top twenty Russian universities by graduate pay.
