IBM: Among the Best Students
Every year international experts from IBM invite students from over 15 countries to learn about their innovative, research, educational, environmental and business projects.
This year the IBM Best Student Recognition Event took place in Montpellier in France. Seventy five students studying in various fields, such as technology, IT management, and business were there, including four students from Russia – that’s more than last year. The Russians were students of the Bauman University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Dmitry Aldunin, HSE graduate and prospective master’s student at the Faculty of Business Informatics. Dmitry told us about the event.
— Mainly, there were presentations by IBM staff who showed us what’s up at the company. The topics covered many areas, from cloud computing, modern technologies of data storage and analysis, to ‘smart cities’, Internet of Things, and even forming a personal brand for a young specialist. The presentations were not limited to general marketing data; we were given an opportunity to see energy-saving server rooms, an example of work on a supercomputer with the IBM Watson artificial intelligence system, the Deep Thunder system, which allows forecasting floods with high precision, systems of city traffic management, and many other things.
It was also very interesting to talk to people from different countries and IBM staff in an informal setting. We got to better understand how the work is done in research, marketing, and other departments, as well as how master’s students study and work in Europe.
